29th April 1817: Letter started at Wakefield, finished and sent from Leeds

Wakefield Tuesday morng 29 April

Honoured Sir

I consider it now highly necessary I should be referred by you on My Lord Sidmouth to some majistrate in this other neighbourhood of Leeds as to the propriety of taking singlely some two or three of the main links of the present delegates so that I may while among them Experience the Effect that might have upon the others as well as the poor deluded people for till now I had not the opportunity of Being long absent from M. I have so arranged it with him to avoid suspicion that he should be at one place and I in another and when I have got all I can of him and the full opportunity of any future Introduction to the others he might quietly be taken I think after monday next will be a good opportunity should you and his lordship think proper, Every hour furnishes me with something new I am now just Arriving for leeds and shall be back here at the Srafford Arms on or before Sunday, there will be Expected a delegate from various places the names of which with other Principals I am in hopes of Obtaining in addition to these I have already sent for your inspection whose desperate conduct far surpasses my expectations as well as the delusions held out to the poor deluded people who Seems just ready any mischief they might be Set on to do.

25th April 1817

Honoured Sir/

I arrived here last night since which time I have been fully engaged and have been introduced to several of the Committee which I consider of very great importance the perticulars I am afraid will be to much for a letter—I shall accompany M to Sheffield tomorrow morning—I am Obliged to appear a liberal Patriot by which meens I have already Obtained much but I am afraid my money will grow far short of Obtaining what I am likely to do by following it up to the desird effect. Shall therefore wish your immediate advice by a line directed to the post office Sheffield By the next post for WJ Richards will not be suspected at present and I must assure you much Important information is to be gained

I remain
Sir/
